TruckerMatch ("we", "us", "our") operates a route-based dating platform for CDL drivers, OTR haulers, and singles who love the road lifestyle. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use TruckerMatch, how we use it, who we share it with, and the controls you have. If you only read one section, read Your Rights Under GDPR and CCPA.
We collect what we need to match you by route, verify you are real, and keep your account safe. We never sell your data. We never share exact GPS coordinates with other users - only zone-based presence. You can export or delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy in two clicks.
What Data We Collect
TruckerMatch collects three distinct categories of data, each with a specific purpose tied to a feature of the platform. We do not collect data "just in case" - every field has a defined use described below.
1. Account Data
When you register, we collect your email address, an encrypted password, your date of birth (to verify the 18+ requirement), and a chosen display name. We use this data to create and secure your account, send transactional emails (matches, messages, account alerts), and prevent duplicate or fraudulent registrations. Email addresses are never sold, never published, and never shared with other members.
2. Profile Data
Profile data is the information you voluntarily add to your member profile: photos, driver type (OTR, regional, local, owner-operator), preferred lanes, home base city and state, lifestyle interests, and bio text. Photos are scanned by an automated verification system to confirm they depict a real human. Your DOT number, real name, and home address are never required and are never displayed publicly, even if voluntarily entered for verification.
3. Usage and Device Data
We log standard technical data needed to keep the service running: IP address, device type, browser, app version, session duration, and the pages or features you interact with. This data is used for security (detecting bot traffic and scam patterns), troubleshooting, and aggregate analytics. We retain raw logs for 90 days, then anonymize them.
How We Use Geolocation for Route Matching
The Route Matching Engine is the core of TruckerMatch. It can only work if we know roughly where you are and where you are going. We have designed the system to deliver that experience without ever exposing your precise location to other members.
Other members see your location only as a zone - a roughly 25-mile radius around your current rest area or a corridor segment along your active lane. Exact GPS coordinates are processed on our servers to compute route overlaps but are never transmitted to other users, never sold, and never published in your profile. Status indicators (driving, resting, on break, at stop) are derived from your declared schedule, not live tracking.
You can disable location features entirely in Settings → Privacy → Location. With location off, Route Matching, Stopover Connect, and Road Pulse Feed will be unavailable, but every other feature of the platform remains usable. Location data is retained for 30 days for the active feature, then permanently deleted from our systems.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
TruckerMatch uses cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session tokens) to keep you signed in, remember your theme preference, and measure aggregate platform performance. We use three categories:
- Essential cookies - required for login, security, and core navigation. These cannot be disabled because the platform will not function without them.
- Preference cookies - remember your dark-mode setting, last-viewed state or city, and language. You can clear these at any time.
- Analytics cookies - anonymous aggregate statistics on page views and feature usage. You can opt out without losing any platform functionality.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Full technical detail, including third-party providers we rely on for analytics and security, is documented in our Cookie Policy.
Your Rights Under GDPR and CCPA
Whether you live in California, the European Union, or anywhere else in the United States, TruckerMatch grants every member the same set of data rights. You do not need to invoke a specific law to exercise them - these controls are available in your account settings to every user, every day.
- Right to access - download a full copy of everything TruckerMatch holds about you, in a portable JSON file, from Settings → Privacy → Export My Data.
- Right to rectification - edit any profile or account field at any time. Verification re-runs automatically when photos change.
- Right to deletion - permanently remove your account and associated personal data within 30 days of request.
- Right to restrict processing - pause features like Route Matching or Road Pulse Feed without deleting your account.
- Right to object - opt out of analytics, marketing emails, and non-essential data processing.
- Right to data portability - receive your exported data in a machine-readable format suitable for transfer to another service.
- CCPA-specific: right to opt out of sale - TruckerMatch does not sell personal data to anyone, ever, regardless of jurisdiction.
To exercise any of these rights outside the in-app controls, contact us at [email protected] or via the channels listed on our contact page. We respond to verified requests within 30 calendar days.
How We Protect Your Data
Data security is treated as a core feature, not an afterthought. According to the Federal Trade Commission, romance scams cost online daters $1.16 billion in the first nine months of 2025 - much of that loss starts with leaked or stolen profile data. TruckerMatch defends against that risk on multiple layers.
All traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted with TLS 1.3. Passwords are hashed with industry-standard bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Photos and personally identifiable data are encrypted at rest using AES-256. Production systems are isolated behind a private network with multi-factor authentication required for every staff member. We perform third-party penetration testing twice per year and publish a summary of findings in our annual transparency report.
If a security incident does occur, we will notify affected users within 72 hours of discovery, in line with GDPR Article 33 - even for members outside the European Union. For tips on protecting yourself when meeting matches in person, see our safety guidelines.
How to Delete Your Account
You own your account, and leaving TruckerMatch should be as easy as joining it. Here is exactly how it works:
- Open Settings. Sign in, tap your avatar, choose Settings → Privacy.
- Select "Delete My Account". Confirm your password. Optionally tell us why you are leaving - this is voluntary and stored anonymously.
- Confirm deletion. Your profile is hidden immediately. All personal data is permanently erased within 30 days from active systems and within 90 days from encrypted backups.
- Receive confirmation. You will get an email when deletion is complete. After that, no record of your account remains.
Certain limited records may be retained where required by law - for example, financial records relating to past Premium subscriptions are kept for seven years to comply with tax regulations. These records contain no profile content, photos, location, or message history.
Changes to This Policy
If we materially change how we handle your data, we will notify active members by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and post a prominent banner inside the app. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page always reflects the current version. For background on how we operate and who we are, see our About page.
Questions, complaints, or requests? Email [email protected] or visit our contact page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
